1x11 upgrade from 1x10 using Shimano XT M8000 purchased from Jenson USA. $212 for the entire drivetrain!
After many different OneUp Component setups, it was time to upgrade to a dedicated 1x11 drivetrain. I wanted the extra gearing that the 1x11 has over my old 1x10, as well as the extra comfort of a purpose built system.
The upgrade went without any issues. The trickiest part is the in-frame housing. You can see in the video that I just taped the old housing to the new housing to push/pull it through the frame.
When putting on a new derailleur, you need to make sure you always just your limit screws, including the b limit screw. All those adjustments are to help a standard derailleur fit on a mass amount of frames. I find it easiest to set your limit screws before you put the chain on. You can fine tune if needed once you have the chain on and can ride the bike.
So far the Shimano XT M8000 1x11 setup has been great. My out of shape ass loves having that huge 46T ring, even here in Texas, on some tougher climbs.
Who is using what oval chainrings? I'm thinking of giving them a go. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
